Description: The type of geologic materials, and their hydrogeologic characteristics, is a major factor in determining the availablieity and sustainablility of a groundwater resource. The hydrogeologic characteristics of the major hydrogeologic units displayed in this layer include type (matrix, fracture-dominated, karst, or a combination of these) and magnitude of permeability (high, moderate, low). This layer should be used in conjunction with HydroGeologic_Sediments layer which contains unconsolidated quaternary deposits.Created by Integral Consulting Inc. and Heath Hydrology Inc. using USGS and Colorado Geological Survey data. Full data description and methodology available in the Pitkin County Groundwater Study reports (Phase 1, 2, and 3). Reports are located on the Pitkin County website. Updated in 2011.
