Description: The type of geologic materials, and their hydrogeologic characteristics, is a major factor in determining the availability and sustainability of a groundwater resource. The hydrogeologic characteristics of the major hydrogeologic units displayed in this layer include type (matrix, fracture-dominated, karst, or a combination of these) and magnitude of permeability (high, moderate, low). This layer should be used in conjunction with the HydroGeologic_Bedrock layer.Created by Integral Consulting Inc. and Heath Hydrology Inc. using USGS and Colorado Geological Survey data. 1:24,000 and 1:200,000 source maps were used. Full data description and methodology available in the Pitkin County Groundwater Study reports (Phase 1, 2, and 3). Reports are located on the Pitkin County website. Updated in 2011.
